Inside the Certified AI Project Manager class day

If you are a project or delivery manager weighing the Certified AI Project Manager class, here is where the day goes, module by module, and what happens once it ends.

The shape of the day

The class is one day, live online, capped at 12 seats. Teaching time is six and a half hours: five modules of 45, 60, 75, 90 and 75 minutes, with 45 minutes for breaks and setup. Of those 390 minutes, 300 are hands-on work on your own material.

You share the room with Scrum Masters and Product Owners taking their own Stage 1 classes. The first four modules are the same for everyone. The fifth splits by role, and so does the rubric.

Modules 1 to 4: the shared spine

Module 1, Where AI goes and where it must not (45 minutes). You write your own boundary list against your real project work: three tasks AI may draft, three it may assist with a human check, and three it must never touch.

Module 2, Prompt patterns as a working library (60 minutes). You build six reusable prompts for delivery work, each stamped with the model and the date you tested it.

Module 3, Weak versus strong: reading AI output like an editor (75 minutes). You work through six matched pairs of real AI output, one weak and one strong, and name what separates them. No AI credential we could find puts learners through this exercise.

Module 4, Building your evaluation set (90 minutes). You write a rubric with three bands, then judge ten AI outputs against it and record a verdict and a reason for each. This is the skill the credential rests on.

Module 5: the AI Project Manager brief

The last 75 minutes start the marked submission, which you finish after class. The brief has two parts. Rebuild one status report so a stakeholder reads it to the end. Then sweep your own risk log and list what is missing from it, with a reason for each item.

You work on your own sanitized material. If your employer will not let you bring real project documents, a fallback dataset is provided. It is marked the same way, and you declare it on the cover block. The pack follows one fixed template, handed out in class, with six sections in a fixed order:

After class: 14 days, one assessor, three bands

The pack is due 14 days after the class. An assessor who did not teach the class marks it against the rubric published before you buy. The assessor never sees your name or employer. The result comes back inside 10 working days.

Four criteria. Judgment: you changed the AI output and can say why; an unedited AI draft lands in Not yet. Specificity: the work is your real work. Boundary awareness: you name one thing you would not let AI do here, with a reason. Reusability: another project manager could pick up your prompt and use it. Each is banded Not yet, Pass or Strong. A pass is Pass or Strong on all four.

A Not yet comes with written feedback and one free resubmission. Pass, and the American School of AI issues the credential for life, with no renewal fee, a printed Certificate ID and a digital badge. Anyone can check it at Verify a Credential. The pass rate is published once 30 submissions in the stage have been marked.

The American School of AI sets the standard, arranges the independent assessment and issues the credential. It does not run classes. Our authorized training providers deliver the public dates and handle registration. The class is $495. Dates are listed at Find a class.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to bring a real project?

Bring one if you can, sanitized. If your employer forbids it, a fallback dataset is provided and marked the same way. You declare it on the cover block.

What happens if my submission lands in Not yet?

You get written feedback and one free resubmission, due within 14 days of the mark. After that there is one paid re-mark. If that also lands in Not yet, the credential closes to you for six months.

Where does the credential lead?

It admits you to the Certified Advanced AI Coach class, two days at $1,195. A Stage 2 pass admits you to Certified AI Integration Manager, three days at $2,495. Nobody skips Stage 1. The whole path is on the certifications hub.
